KG+D Architects collaborated with the Brooklawn Country Club on renovating key event spaces on the main level of their beloved 100-year-old, 40,000 sf, Clubhouse. Brooklawn’s vision for the project was to “honor the past while adapting to the lifestyles of the present” and KG+D worked tirelessly with the Club’s Building Committee to ensure that every detail reflected that idea.
The primary goals of the project were to: improve circulation flow and daylighting within the event rooms, increase the useability of the exterior patio space, and improve the arrival sequence and accessibility, all while creating an updated, yet timeless atmosphere.
To improve the outdoor experience, KG+D worked with Wes Stout Associates to expand and renovate the porch and porte cochere. This included replacing the tired seasonal awnings with a new permanent roof structure that created a cohesive, continuously covered porch, allowing for year-round use of the space. To enhance accessibility, the entire bluestone porch floor was elevated to match the main level of the building and a more user-friendly ramp was installed at the drop-off. New terraces were added to increase both seating variety and capacity. Existing windows and doors were replaced with larger, more energy efficient openings, improving both the views out to the course and the daylight reaching the interior event spaces.
On the interior, the team renovated the entry lobby, toilet rooms, Living Room, Formal and Private Dining Rooms, Grill Room and Bar, carving out a new Trophy Hallway in the process. This not only improved circulation but created a more fitting entryway to the Grill Room by celebrating the Club’s history. The material palette throughout was refreshed while paying homage to the Club’s tradition. All of these improvements created a timeless upgrade to Brooklawn’s Clubhouse and will help build upon its tradition over the next 100 years.
